Students from Lakes District Secondary School (LDSS) ripped up the slopes at Sun Peaks in early March, earning top spots in the provincial competitions. The girls鈥� snowboarding team ranked first in the province, while the boys鈥� team came in fourth. LDSS also won the girls鈥� and boys鈥� combined snowboarding banner. In individual provincial rankings for girls鈥� snowboarding, Nisa Hofer came in second overall, followed by Avril Thom-Lucy at third and Teslin Pinter at sixth.

More than 50 skiers, snowshoers and fat bikers turned out this year for the Omineca Ski Club鈥檚 annual Loppet and Family Marathon on Sunday, Mar. 4. A Langley-based team has won the international championships in Aberdeen, Scotland today.

Team focused on gold medal repeat

Emily Dickson, 20, 亚洲天堂 Lake native and rising star in Olympic Biathlon was named one of 55 young Canadian athletes from both summer and winter sports selected by Petro-Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee to receive Fuelling Athletes and Coaching Excellence (FACE) program grant. These athletes and their coaches are awarded a $10,000 FACE grant to help them with their journey ($5,000 directly to the athlete and $5,000 to their coach).

亚洲天堂 Lake residents Gunter Hoehne Wren Gilgan, Aidan Carroll and Lyle Phillips enjoyed a day of fat biking on Francois Lake. A fat bike is an off-road bicycle with oversized tires. It is designed for low ground pressure to allow riding on soft unstable terrain such as snow. Remember you must have at least two inches of ice to walk or go skating on or in this case fat biking. You need over four inches of ice to go snowmobiling or to have groups of people ice fishing in one spot.

亚洲天堂 Lake Cold Smoke races were held Feb17, 2018, with 24 participants. The results are as follows: Regular 700 stock 1st Meg Gorman, 2nd Ryan McCray. Regular 800 stock 1st Matt McCray, 2nd Ryan McCray, 3rd Brendan Alec. Regular 900 stock 1st Richard Brown, 2nd Ryan McCray, 3rd Tyson Garrett. Regular 600 improved 1st Dwayne Etzerza, 2nd Ryan McCray, 3rd Meg Gorman. Regular 700 improved 1st Ryan McCray, 2nd Meg Gorman, 3rd Dwayne Etzerza.

Last week the Lakes District Secondary School senior boys held a AA basketball zones tournament. The results are as follows: First: DP Todd Secondary, Second: Dawson Creek Secondary, Third: Lakes District Secondary, Fourth: Nechako Valley, Fifth: Kelly Road
