A women's group on the Southside will be learning about medicinal plants this month and they are hoping more locals will join them.
Organized by the Southside Health & Wellness Centre, the women's group meets on the third Wednesday of every month. Attended by as few as six to over a dozen women depending on the meeting, the group attends workshops together, garden, and engage in other activities geared toward women's wellness. While the group is labelled as Southside, community members from the north side are welcome as well, said group member Manon Laviolette.
"I wanted to have an article printed out so we can have more women coming," Laviolette wrote in an email.
The group will learn about medicinal plants in a workshop facilitated by Willow Fehr at their next meeting on July 16. The meeting, which is free to attend, is set to run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a home-cooked dinner will be provided, Laviolette said.
At their last meeting on June 18 the women worked on some gardening.
"We started planting inside in April and then we took the plants in the greenhouse and planted them in June," Laviolette said.
The Southside Health & Wellness centre also hosts a similar men's group on the last Tuesday of every month from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
