The Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake is moving forward with improvements to the Rod Reid Trail.
In a call for bids, issued on May 28, 2025, the Village sought a qualified contractor to complete upgrades to the 2.3-kilometre multi-use trail, which is used year-round for walking, running, biking, bird watching, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. The upgrades are designed to enhance recreational access, environmental sustainability, and long-term trail durability. The Village is planning for work to be complete by fall 2025.
Planned work includes resurfacing and widening the trail to two metres using crushed gravel. In areas requiring structural support, the work called for the use of non-woven "geotextile" or "geogrid" beneath the gravel.
鈥淩emoving some of the topsoil and organic material prior to placement of gravel where the trail is being widened is important,鈥 the Village stated in the request for pricing.
Drainage and flood mitigation were also key priorities. Contractors were asked to install new culverts, replace non-functional ones, and raise the trail in low-lying areas that flood annually.
鈥淪ection of the trail that flood on an annual basis should be raised at least 150mm above the highest known flood level,鈥 the document said.
It also suggested using pressure-treated lumber or rocks to prevent erosion, and including culverts under raised sections to maintain proper drainage.
A damaged section of the southern trail was identified for boardwalk construction to ensure accessibility, and the project also includes relocating and rebuilding the east viewing platform to a drier location. The revised platform is expected to feature either staircases or accessible ramp grades.
The Village confirmed it would oversee the project and ensure compliance with municipal bylaws and procurement policies. Contractors were directed to follow best practices and design standards set out in Section 9 of the BC Parks Universal Design Guide for Front Country Parks.
