A 79-year-old man has died in what police say appears to be an accidental drowning on the Kitimat River north of town.
鈥淜itimat RCMP officers attended and was able to locate a 79-year-old Kitimat resident, who was confirmed to have drowned,鈥 police said in a statement released July 15.
Emergency crews were called to the river near Nalbeelah Creek along Highway 37 just after 1:30 p.m. The man's body was recovered and returned to Kitimat with the help of Kitimat Search and Rescue, Kitimat firefighters and paramedics, and the British Columbia Conservation Service.
Police did not release the victim鈥檚 name, which is customary in such cases.The incident is now being investigated by the BC Coroners Service.
