The official search for Thomas Kelly who went into the Skeena River at Usk while fishing July 12, 2025 may have been called off July 14, but family members and community supporters are continuing to look for the 46-year-old man.
"At this time, in consultation with search and rescue, further search efforts have been suspended until new information is obtained, or the environmental conditions change," Terrace RCMP said in a brief message July 14.
Search and rescue crews from both Terrace and Kitimat responded quickly after receiving word that family members lost sight of Kelly at approximately 6:45 p.m. July 12.
"Over the weekend the search and rescue teams did a comprehensive search of the Skeena River by boat and helicopter without locating the missing," Terrace RCMP said.
Police added that the investigation continues and that anyone with information should call the Terrace detachment at 250-638-7400.
Kelly was last seen wearing a beige hoodie and light grey sweatpants.
One business contributing to the search for Kelly is the Rainbow Motel, which quickly offered up two vacant rooms and gas cards for those involved in looking for Kelly.
"The community has been very good to us," said motel owner Perry who declined to provide his last name for the reason for making a contribution.
"We remember the good times and we remember the bad times and the community was there to support us."
He said the two rooms are now being used and that the motel has provided 10 gas cards worth $50 each.
Just today, July 15, Perry augmented the contribution with 10 grocery store gift cards worth $50 each.
"We should stick together with each other as a family and support each other and that's to pray to God to make sure everybody's happy and healthy," Perry said.
The response to a call for community assistance included experienced boat operators and drone operators.
