Anna Janzen celebrated her 90 birthday along with her family at The Pines nursing home in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake, on March 5. Anna and her family came to the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake area in 1940 from Saskatchewan and settled on land in the Cheslatta area that the government provided. They brought their own livestock and farm implements. The family lived in tents for about a year until a log cabins were built.

ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake residents tucked into hearty local dishes at the Wild Game Banquet at Tweedsmuir Park Rod and Gun Club on Feb. 23. More than 140 people attended the event, where meat and fish donated by local hunters and fisherfolk went into dozens of different culinary creations. Bear, moose, deer, caribou, elk, goat, cod and salmon were among the offerings. After the dinner, a live band provided music for those who brought their dancing shoes.

Mother Millie raises funds for animal welfare

The Mother Millie garage sale, which ran from Feb. 16-23 in the Lakeview Mall raised more than $3,500 for its cat shelter in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake. Community members donated numerous things for sale and volunteers helped with setting up the tables and pricing and packing the items. The money collected through the event will help with the Mother Millie shelter for stray cats. (Blair McBride photo)

Students and staff at William Konkin Elementary and Lakes District Secondary School donned suitable colours on Feb. 27 for Pink Shirt Day or Anti-Bullying Day. And a hot dog barbecue was also held at Lakeview Mall for Pink Shirt Day. Donations from the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, the barbecue and from Babine Forest Products raised $1,008.93 for the Elizabeth Fry Society.
