The opening hockey game of the 2022 Paralympics features rematch of 2018 gold medal final with USA

Danny Tress, a Special Olympics athlete from ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake, got a chance to meet some 2022 Canadian Olympic medalists at the Vancouver International Airport while on his way home from competing in the B.C. Special Olympic qualifiers. Here, he’s seen posing with monobob bronze medalist Christine de Bruin and her bobsled teammate Melissa Lotholz. Tress, along with Smithers athletes Torben Schuffert and Ann Forbes, also got to meet two members of the gold medal-winning Canadian Women’s Hockey team.

The all-star showcase will be part of the junior A league’s 60th anniversary weekend in January

The junior A league experimented with the system at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack in October

The league is shifting to regional matchups with travel still hindered province wide

Voting is open until Tuesday to determine which six skaters and four goalies make the game

Remaining all-stars will be determined through online fan voting

Nine matches are being pushed back, but the junior A league has also added nine regional games

The homes of the Chilliwack Chiefs and Merritt Centennials have been particularly hard hit
