A small wildfire has ignited just north of Babine Lake.
The fire, on the northeast side of Babine Lake near Galwing Creek, was discovered July 29, according to a notice posted by the BC Wildfire Service. It was classified as out of control, the notice said, which means the BC Wildfire Service expects the fire to grow beyond its current borders. The fire was noted as 0.3 hectares in size on the morning of July 30, but it had grown to 0.9 hectares by noon.
The wildfire is "a low vigour surface fire with some open flame, and a slow rate of spread," the BC WIldfire Service said in an email.
No evacuation orders or notices were in place for the fire, and there are no communities or structures currently in danger.
An Initial Attack Crew, 12 Unit Crew members, a helicopter, and a water tender were on site July 30.
"They are cutting a hose trail to secure water access to the fire and around the fire鈥檚 perimeter," the BC Wildfire Service said. "The helicopter has been onsite to assist with access and bucketing operations."
A local contract crew was also dispatched to assist with the effort.
