When Ris茅 Johansen and her partner David first took ownership of the Takysie Lake Resort in 2006, they had no idea all the surprises life would have in store for them over the next 19 years.
"So many things have happened over the last 20 [or so] years. It鈥檚 hard to remember them all," Johansen told the Lakes District 亚洲天堂. "We housed friends and family in need, have watched our granddaughters grow up here (the store is all they have ever known us in!), have had awesome fireworks shows on the lake, burned down the original house (our old Cabin 1) that Ann Bishop grew up in (she even came for a final walk down memory lane stay in it before that), served on countless boards and societies."
Johansen recalled some of the major local, national and world events that touched home at Takysie over the years.
"The huge snowfall of 2006, the economic plummet of 2008, climbing out of that financial fiasco and into some healthy years, going through a 17 day, very emotional search for a drowning victim in our lake, being an ops centre during the wildfires of 2018, feeding volunteer fire department personnel and firefighters, pushing through the COVID years and 26 years of marriage," she said"
But, Johansen said, it wasn't just big moments that made their time owning the resort memorable.
"Really is the small things that are the thread that stitches the entire quilt together," she said. "People calling in with urgency because they spotted a fire and need help or to get the word out. Someone needing to know the hours of the Southside Refuse Station or the Southbank Post Office. When is someone鈥檚 funeral? What is someone鈥檚 phone number? What places are for sale? What are the fish biting on? Directions, advice, signing on a passport application of someone we鈥檝e known. We鈥檝e been asked for loans, advice, help, comfort, housing, food, and so much more. It鈥檚 been an amazing ride."
"We have had some amazing employees, some of which were very young and have grown into wonderful adults. We have made lifelong friendships with guests that return year after year. My mind reels thinking about all the little ticks of time and all that has filled it."
The pair are not leaving the Southside, which they have called home for so many years.
"We are just 'moving home'," Johansen said, "Back to our original property right next door. So we not only look forward to welcoming the new owners into our Southside community, but also welcome them as neighbours!"
