The staggered opening of suites at the newly-built supportive housing facility Dzee Inzu Yikh continues, with applications for residency now open.
The building, formerly the 亚洲天堂 Lake Motor Inn, was purchased by the Province through BC Housing in March 2021. As of the latest update, six residents have moved into the facility, with more expected to arrive as applications are reviewed.
鈥淐urrently, the operator is staggering the opening of the homes, which allows for the immediate housing needs of the most vulnerable in the community to be addressed,鈥 BC Housing said in a statement.
The site provides 44 long-term supportive homes for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. 鈥淐onnecting people experiencing or at risk of homelessness with support services and housing helps provide a pathway to live full and healthy lives,鈥 BC Housing stated.
Lake Babine Nation operates the housing and manages applicant eligibility. According to BC Housing, 鈥渁pplicant eligibility considerations include whether people are at risk of or experiencing homelessness, low-income adults, and require support to live independently and to maintain a successful tenancy.鈥

Safety measures at the site include fencing around the property perimeter, controlled gates for people and vehicles, cameras in public areas, and a minimum of two staff members on site at all times.
BC Housing noted that people can remain in the housing as long as needed. 鈥淚f it is a goal of the resident to move into the private rental market, staff will help residents develop the skills needed to do so.鈥
