Nature Conservancy of Canada has good news for those who hate yard work

School received more than 200 nominations for the awards that recognize one’s community impact

Fourteen students from Lakes District Secondary School (LDSS) and teacher Patti Dube were chosen for this year’s WE Day excursion when they will be flown to Vancouver with WestJet on Nov. 19. The winners were chosen for their contributions to the local community and work with food and water security, said a WestJet representative.

Around 150 people came out to the Ootsa Lake Bible Camp fundraiser dinner in the Island Gospel Fellowship Church gymnasium on Nov. 2. There was a silent auction of household items and all proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the Bible camp’s facilities. A total of $8,000 was raised from the event. (Blair McBride photos)

Southsiders gathered at the Grassy Plains Hall for the first annual trunk or treat Halloween event. Treat seekers could get their sweet fix out of residents’ vehicle trunks that were decorated with pumpkins and other Halloween-themed items. They also held a fireworks show. The park was named after Bruce and Evelyn MacEwen and the Rotary Club of ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake donated some funds towards the park’s construction in MacEwens name. The park is located on the grounds of the old Dick Schritt Ball Park, on the corner of Francois Lake Dr. and Railway Ave. and is open to the public.
