Pink shirt day

Bullying is a major problem in schools, workplaces, homes and online. Pink Shirt Day aims to raise awareness of these issues and along with many other organizations in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake, Cheslatta Carrier Nation chief and council wore their pink shirts in support. (Laura Blackwell photo)

Mother Millie’s fundraiser in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake

The annual Mother Millie Garage Sale was held Feb. 15 at the Lakeview Mall. All proceeds from this event help with veterinary treatment of stray animals in the community. The fundraiser went from Feb. 15 till Feb 20 and they raised approximatley $3500. (Lakes District ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà photo)

WOW Bulkley Valley Credit Union make great donation

The Bulkley Valley Credit Union recently donated $1800 to the WOW bus and food share program. The bus currently goes to the Southside each Monday, Southside Health and Wellness Centre 10:45 a.m. - noon and Danskin, Cheslatta Training Centre, 12:20 - 1:40 p.m. and Southside Economic Development Association Building (SEDA) 2 - 3:10 p.m. On board they have food share items, free books for all ages, toys, and a new cupboard filled with puzzles and games for you to borrow.

Winter carnival celebrated in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake

Hundreds of students at William Konkin Elementary school in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake filed into the gymnasium on Feb. 14 for a pancake breakfast supported by the Canadian Parents for French BC Yukon. After the breakfast students will be heading off to different carnival activities including: skating, curling, swimming, and cross-country skiing. And of course the friendly French snowman Bonhomme enjoyed the breakfast with the kids too.

Celebrating positive work

William Konkin Elementary School hosts a monthly SOAR gathering to recognize the great work and citizenship of the wonderful students. These gatherings are attended by proud students, parents/guardians, grandparents, and educators celebrating all the positive work our learners are doing here at WKE. Each month, different students are recognized and given a personalized award. For the month of January 25 students from Grades K – 7 were recognized.

Rio Tinto purchased Leathermen from Woods N Water recently and had the students at Lakes District Secondary School engrave them all.
