The B.C. mining and exploration industry is the largest single employer of aboriginal men and woman in B.C. Considering that we have a looming labour shortage in this province it is more important than ever that we invest in the education and training of Aboriginal young men and women to ensure their future and ensure a supply of skilled labour to keep our economy strong.

The Aboriginal Mine Training Association鈥檚 skills training program has been highly successful in achieving this objective. Currently, more than 720 program participants are working in the industry for more than 200 different employers. And 65 per cent have transitioned from unemployment.

These are excellent results and they demonstrate how critical it is for the provincial government to maintain policies that support this important training program and the vitally important mining and exploration industry that employs its graduates.
