On Jan. 3 of this year at around 1 a.m., 15 yr. old Bradley Levesque, a Grade 10 student at Skeena Junior School, suffered trauma to his chest and stomach area after a punching game with friends at a parentally supervised private birthday party.

Levesque fell to the ground unresponsive and an adult male at the party performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Levesque was taken to Mills Memorial Hospital where he passed away from his injuries shortly after 2 a.m.

The case is now moving through the courts and no criminal code charges are being considered in Levesque's death. However, the party host could face a charge of permitting a minor to consume liquor, which falls under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act, said police.

The forensic pathologist who conducted the autopsy concluded that the likely cause of death is a condition known as commotio cordis. This is a condition in which a lethal arrhythmia known as ventricular fibrillation is triggered after a blunt, non-penetrating impact occurs to the chest.

The investigation into this matter has determined that no criminal code charges are being recommended.

The party host was issued an appearance notice under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act, said police.

The host is scheduled to appear in a Terrace court on April 26, 2011, if prosecutors decide to lay a charge, said Corporal Mike Dame of the Terrace RCMP.
