A man arrested in 2023 following an altercation that left one man dead in Prince George has now been convicted of manslaughter more than two years after the incident.
On March 7, 2023, just before 9 p.m., Prince George RCMP responded to an apartment building on the 1500 block of Queensway following a report of gunshots.
When officers arrived, they discovered one man who was deceased. The Prince George RCMP鈥檚 Serious Crime Unit was called in to investigate and quickly arrested the suspect, Dakota Rayn Keewatin.
On Aug. 19, 2025, Keewatin was convicted of manslaughter in a B.C. Supreme Court and will be sentenced in November.
RCMP were quick to respond to the report of gunfire inside an apartment, which was key to advancing the investigation, stated Staff Sgt. Aaron Whitehouse.
鈥淭he accused鈥檚 arrest followed shortly thereafter. This investigation 鈥 like all homicides - involved a large number of investigators who worked hard to ensure a timely disclosure to the BC Prosecution Service. We are very pleased with the outcome,鈥 Staff Sgt. Whitehouse.
