Lakes District Secondary School (LDSS) students Rory Creighton and Hannah Zayac will soon be getting their highly anticipated Governor General鈥檚 Academic Bronze Medals for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years, respectively for achieving the highest average for all their Grade 11 and 12 courses.
After a significant delay caused by the change in Governor Generals in 2021 and the subsequent need to create new medals featuring the 30th Governor General Mary Simon, the Governor General鈥檚 Academic Award bronze medals for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 years are finally being distributed.
Creighton, with an outstanding academic record and an impressive average of 96.24%, was named the recipient of the 2020-21 Governor General鈥檚 Academic Award bronze medal. Creighton felt that his dedication and commitment to his studies truly paid off, and he felt deeply honored to be recognized for his outstanding academic efforts.
鈥淭his award means a lot to me, and I am honoured to be recognized for my academic efforts,鈥 said Creighton. The Governor General鈥檚 Academic Award bronze medals serve as a symbol of excellence and a testament to the recipients鈥 exceptional achievements. Creighton鈥檚 plans to frame his medal and celebrate with friends.
Since graduating from LDSS, Creighton has pursued his passion for Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria. Currently, he is gaining invaluable experience as a test engineer during an 8-month work term with Dometic Marine in Richmond, BC. With his sights set on becoming a professional engineer, Creighton aspires to contribute his skills and knowledge to the automotive, marine, or aerospace industry.
Equally deserving of recognition, Hannah Zayac, who achieved an exceptional average of 96.88%, was named the recipient of the 2021-22 Governor General鈥檚 Academic Award bronze medal and will be receiving her medal and certificate soon as well. Zayac is currently pursuing her higher education from the College of New Caledonia, and is working part-time as a Marketing Assistant with Tech North Solutions Inc. In the past, she has also worked as tourism ambassador for the 亚洲天堂 Lake Visitor Information Centre. Zayac was unavailable for comment at press time.
These medals, established in 1873, are the most prestigious awards bestowed upon Canadian secondary school students, recognizing exceptional academic achievement. Since the award was established, a total of 38 students from LDSS have been recognized for their exceptional academic achievements through the Governor General鈥檚 Award.
