A 1001-hectare wildfire burning along the north shore of the Nechako Reservoir, near Little Andrews Bay, is now under control.
The fire, which was first reported on June 8, was previously designated as out of control, or likely to spread. Now the fire has been reduced to primarily smoldering ground with occasional flares of fire and is not likely to grow further, according to a notice posted by the BC Wildfire service June 16.
As of June 9 the blaze was being battled by one small Initial Attack crew consisting of a handful of early-response firefighters, one larger Unit crew of approximately 20 firefighters, and two contracted crews of firefighters, aided by three helicopters. By the June 16 update, a full fire camp had been set up and a second Unit crew was joining the effort, as well as six pieces of heavy equipment.
"All machine guards have been built around the perimeter of the fire," the BC Wildfire service said in the June 16 notice. "Crews are continuing to directly attack the fire by applying water to the fire鈥檚 edge. Due to the spottiness on some flanks of the fire, crews are having to cut trails past the perimeter."
No evacuation alerts or orders were listed on the site. The fire is approximately 15 kilometres west of the community Wistaria.
