Several wildfire crews are stationed in Telkwa, Houston, and 亚洲天堂 Lake in preparation for the summer wildfire season.
There are two types of crews posted in the region: initial attack crews, which generally consist of three to four firefighters who specialize in extinguishing early-stage fires, and unit crews, which generally consist of 20 to 22 firefighters who specialize in longer manoeuvres such as removing fuel with chainsaws and setting up hoses and pumps.
In Telkwa, there are four initial attack crews and one unit crew, according to the BC Wildfire Service. There are three initial attack crews stationed in Houston. In 亚洲天堂 Lake there are two initial attack crews and one unit crew. That adds up to an approximate total of 75 firefighters between the three towns.
The BC Wildfire Service has two other types of crews that can travel from larger centres if need be: rapattack crews, which generally consist of three firefighters who specialize in initial attack tactics that involve rapelling from helicopters, and parattack crews, which are initial attack crews who specialize in parachuting out of planes.
The BC Wildfire Service can bring in supplemental crews of contracted firefighters, community partners, and even the military if additional support is needed.
