This year was event's 50th anniversary

The Tweedsmuir Park Rod and Gun Club celebrated the 50th annual 1000 yard shoot the weekend of May 24-25th 2025. Fifty two shooters and their families gathered to mark the milestone event. There were shooters from B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Washington; some shooters have been coming for years while others this was their first time shooting the event.

The club had shooters arriving to practice all month long in preparation of the shoot. They hosted a roast beef dinner and pancake breakfast over the weekend. The rainy weather and calmer winds on Saturday provided good shooting conditions helping competitors to be able to post several personal bests throughout the day.

One of the events is to shoot at an egg shape target just before lunch on Saturday for a chance to win your dinner that evening. This target is approximately 9鈥 x 6鈥 which is half of the size of a chicken egg to scale at 1000 yards. This year there were twelve hits on the egg and a random draw was used to determine who the winner was.

Another fun challenge is the final event of the weekend where competitors shoot standing offhand at a 4鈥 x 4鈥 steel gong. This event is shot until the last person standing who has not missed yet sometimes lasting as many as six rounds. There were six competitors who hit on their first round out of nearly forty shooters with only a single shooter successfully hit the steel on round two.
