Smithers RCMP is investigating a fatal single-vehicle incident on the Telkwa Forest Service Road yesterday (May 20) morning.
According to a press release, at approximately 9:40 a.m., police were called to a single-vehicle incident in which a vehicle left the Telkwa Forest Service Road and entered the Telkwa River.
The vehicle had two occupants and was partially submerged when first responders arrived. The passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver sustained minor injuries, was treated in the hospital, and has since been released.
"The Smithers RCMP extends its condolences to the families and loved ones of those involved in this tragic incident," the press release stated.
The collision remains under investigation. Further details may be released in the future, police said.
