The new Material Offload Facility at the Port of Prince Rupert is almost complete after nine months of building.

Prince Rupert continues to advance infrastructure at its port as new projects reach completion.

On Aug. 21, the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) announced that the new Material Offload Facility at the Port of Prince Rupert is almost complete after nine months of building. The infrastructure will accommodate the delivery of large components that will be used in the construction of AltaGas and Royal Vopak's Ridley Island Energy Export Facility (REEF).

"The new offload dock will enable these huge prefabricated pieces to be safely offloaded from transport vessels and moved to their permanent locations," PRPA stated.

The joint venture REEF is a large-scale liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and bulk liquids terminal, and a marine berthing and loading facility. The project provides tidewater access to global markets for Canadian products such as propane, methanol and diesel.

Deliveries are expected to begin at the end of August, and spans of the new jetty are scheduled to be the first to arrive.
