Air quality was good in the region between 2023 and 2024, according to the Bulkley Valley - Lakes District Airshed Management Society (BVLD AMS).
Susan Brooks, coordinator for the BVLD AMS, appeared before the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN) board of directors to give an update on her organization's clean air plan which calls for the area to meet air quality targets set by B.C.'s Ministry of Environment. According to Brooks there has been moderate success鈥攕ometimes the region meets the targets, sometimes it does not. However, recent data looks promising.
"It was a pretty good year for air quality," Brooks said, noting the BC Centre for Disease Control uses a colour-coding system to indicate air quality risk throughout the province and the Lakes District was rated blue, or low risk.
The BVLD AMS measures are quality using a network of sensors, including two in the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake.
Air quality is measured by counting particles in ambient outdoor air called PM2.5, which are about an eighth of the width of a human hair, according to Brooks.
Brooks said the society's goal is to reduce negative impacts of poor air quality on human health.
The clean air plan, created in 2012, is due for an update, Brooks said, which is why the society is reaching out now for input to stakeholders such as the RDBN.
