Renovations to the Grassy Plains Community Hall are moving forward after delays tied to contracting and construction timelines.
The contract for the structural foundation work was awarded last September following a required public bid process due to the scale of the project. However, work was delayed after the selected construction company visited the site in late October and determined they could not complete the work before snowfall.
The contractor also issued a change order in response to demolition work already done on the hall鈥檚 interior. Since then, the board of directors has been working closely with the contractor and the project engineer to finalize the revised contract.
鈥淪hould everything go as planned, the construction company should be here soon to start the work,鈥 the association said in a Facebook post. Once underway, the structural foundation is expected to take about six weeks to complete.
Further opportunities for local contractors to bid on interior renovations will be announced in the near future.
While the project is advancing, the Grassy Plains Community Hall Association announced the 2025 Mudbogs will be postponed due to safety and liability concerns.
鈥淎fter careful consideration, we will not be hosting the 2025 Mudbogs,鈥 the board said. 鈥淲e are concentrating on the hall renovations and as this will be an active construction project, we have decided that due to liability issues the Mudbogs will be postponed to 2026.鈥
The board acknowledged the disappointment in the community but emphasized the importance of completing the renovations safely and efficiently.
鈥淲e were hoping we would be able to do the Mudbogs around the construction project, but it was not doable. The board tried their best to see what they could do,鈥 they said.
鈥淲e are looking forward to having a completed hall for our community and events.鈥
There will, however, still be a mudding event in the area this year. The First Annual Fathers Day Lawnmower Race set for June 14 at the Moosehorn Lodge will feature a mud bog. More details can be found on the race's Facebook page or by emailing organizer Jay Wiebe at SLRAmoosehorn@outlook.com.
