Ongoing upgrades to Government Street and Gilgan Road are impacting parking for locals.

Ongoing roadwork on Government Street is impacting parking for local businesses.

The Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake is building a multi-use pathway and other upgrades along Government Street and Gilgan Road, which are to be linked with a bona fide intersection. Businesses and residents in the area are feeling the impacts of the work, with parking being the main concern. Locals say the project is worthwhile in the long run.

Dieca Cooke of The Curly Temple Hair Salon at 3 Avenue and Government Street said the uneven sidewalk is proving a challenge for some customers who are seniors.

"Our clients are still finding us no problem. But there is zero parking near the building for them. It is causing clients to be a bit late for appointments and we have some senior clients who find it鈥檚 quite difficult as the pathway here is all gravel and uneven," she said. "I realize it is for a greater good and the parking will be better when the project is finished. I don鈥檛 see how the inconveniences came be avoided."

Wendy Hiebert, administrator for the Lakes District Senior Citizen Housing Association which runs Caroll Cottage, a seniors living facility on 4 Avenue near Government Street, said parking has always been an issue in that area.

"The Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake is doing its best to upgrade the village," she said.

Heavy trucks typically park along Gilgan Road but that parking is also unavailable for the duration of the project, which is set to complete in September.

The Village said in a May 5 notice that traffic would be impacted by the upgrade project.

"Please plan ahead for detours, limited access, and traffic disruptions in the area," the notice said. "We appreciate your patience and support as we work together to improve road safety in 亚洲天堂 Lake."

"A huge shout-out to the businesses in the area鈥攖hank you for your patience and resilience during this time. We appreciate you sticking with us through the bumps and detours!"
