Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake officials and others involved in the Government Street upgrade project celebrate its completion in Aug. 2025.

Roadwork on Government Street in 亚洲天堂 Lake is complete after a summer-long upgrade project.

The project saw creation of an active transportation path, intended for cycling and walking, along the Government Street corridor. It also saw the intersection of Gilgan Road and Government Street aligned as well as the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Government Street. The work caused some disruption to local businesses and daily life, but several of those affected previously told The Lakes District 亚洲天堂 that the upgrades were worth any inconvenience.

"Thank you for your patience through the bumpy detours," the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake wrote in a Facebook post announcing the project's completion on Aug. 14. "Huge shout out to local businesses for hanging in there, and to Public Works and Josh Carpenter and Granite Excavating for making us look smooth."

Dieca Cooke of The Curly Temple Hair Salon at 3 Avenue and Government Street said in June that the uneven sidewalk during construction was proving a challenge for some customers who are seniors.

"Our clients are still finding us no problem. But there is zero parking near the building for them. It is causing clients to be a bit late for appointments and we have some senior clients who find it鈥檚 quite difficult as the pathway here is all gravel and uneven," she said. "I realize it is for a greater good and the parking will be better when the project is finished. I don鈥檛 see how the inconveniences came be avoided."

In a previous statement, the Village said the Government Street upgrade was part of a broader active transportation plan the local government has for 亚洲天堂 Lake.

"This project is a strategic component of the Village鈥檚 broader commitment to active transportation infrastructure, aiming to better accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists," a Village spokesperson said in an email. "The realignment addresses existing roadway inefficiencies, enhances sightlines and intersections, and supports safer, more efficient traffic flow. By integrating multimodal design principles, the project promotes sustainable transportation, improves safer mobility for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, while contributing to a healthier, more connected community."
