Garbage collection in 亚洲天堂 Lake has been waylaid after the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake's garbage truck broke down on July 17.
The rear differential on the truck failed. Mechanics with the Village attempted a repair but were unable to source the necessary part, a Village spokesperson said in an email. Instead, the differential itself was shipped off to Prince George for repair. The part is expected to be repaired and returned this week (July 25).
The Village's mechanics then need to reinstall the part and perform tests to ensure the truck is in working order. The Village spokesperson was optimistic that repairs could be completed this week but may stretch into next week.
In the mean time, garbage collection service is limited to Mondays only and the Village has asked residents and businesses to have garbage at the curb by 6 a.m. for the next pickup day on Monday July 28.
The Monday collection is happening thanks to the District of Houston, which offered to loan its own garbage truck to the Village on Mondays until repairs on the differential are complete. The Village says they are running two shifts on the truck every Monday to try to collect all residential and commercial garbage if possible before the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako Transfer Station closes for the day.
The Village apologized to residents and businesses for the limited garbage collection and thanked the District of Houston for the assistance.
"A big thank you to the District of Houston for stepping in to help during this time!" the Village said in a Facebook post about the limited garbage collection. "We appreciate [the public's] patience and understanding as we work through the repairs."
